Dr. Frederick Nyang
Dr. Nyang holds a PhD in Energy and Environmental Economics from the University of Amsterdam (1999) and is a Certified Regulation Specialist – Loughborough University (2010). He is responsible for the Commission’s economic regulation functions including energy pricing, planning and policy analysis.
Frederick has more than eighteen (18) years of experience in energy regulation and energy policy making. His achievements include playing a lead role in the development of regulatory instruments and making significant contributions to the development of Kenya’s premier white paper on energy policy: Sessional Paper No. 4 of 2004 on Energy and Kenya’s Feed-in-Tariffs Policy-2008; and in setting up and managing the power sector’s multi-disciplinary team which prepares updates to the Least Cost Power Development Plan (LCPDP). He also oversees the in-house committees responsible for reviewing PPAs, retail electricity tariffs and petroleum pump price caps.
Frederick has taught economics at the University of Nairobi and at Moi University (1991-2000); He has also served in Kenya’s civil service as an Engineer (1984-1987) and as an Economist (1990-1991). He is a member of the International Association for Energy Economics.
